[Before finalizing your reservation, you will be asked to specify your chosen course level: RYA Helmsman or RYA Day Skipper Motor (ICC)] What is the RYA Motor Cruising Scheme? The RYA Motor Cruising Scheme is a structured program developed by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) to teach individuals the skills needed to safely and confidently operate motor cruisers of up to 80ft. Course Format 4 days of non-residential practical course. Day trips of approx. 8 hours from and to our base in Athens. Instructor: Student ratio 1:4 RYA Helmsman Course (4 Days: RYA minimum of 2 days plus an additional 2 days) This course is designed to develop your boat handling and seamanship skills on motor cruisers. By its conclusion, you’ll feel at ease berthing and unberthing in straightforward locations and gain confidence in overall boat handling. Syllabus Boat preparation, boat handling, securing to a buoy, berthing alongside, man overboard, types of craft, engines and drives, engine operation and maintenance, safety and seamanship, rules of the road. No prerequisites are required, but holding an RYA Powerboat Level 2 Handling Certificate or having prior experience and familiarity with motorboats is recommended. RYA Day Skipper Motor (4 Days) This course is designed to equip aspiring skippers with the skills and knowledge needed to safely and confidently operate a motor cruiser on coastal passages during the day. Perfect for new boat owners looking to get to grips with their first boat. It’s also great for more experienced skippers wanting to increase their knowledge, or for powerboaters wanting to move on to larger vessels. The certificate you will receive at the end of the course will also enable you to apply for the ICC (International Certificate of Competence). This qualification is required by most European countries to validate your competence to own or charter a boat. Eligibility requirements based on nationality apply. Syllabus Practical navigation and pilotage, boat handling, seamanship and skippering techniques enabling you to skipper a boat in local waters in daylight. Prerequisites 2 Days on a motor cruiser. A knowledge of basic navigation (best gained from an RYA Day Skipper Theory Course). Payment (Bank transfer or payment link) 50% deposit for reservation. 50% one month before the start of the course. An invoice for the while sum will be sent to you upon settlement of the deposit.
